GWENDOLINE YEO was born and raised on the tiny island nation of Singapore and moved to the United States as a teenager. She received her BA from UCLA before the age of 20, graduating summa cum laude, phi beta kappa as well as receiving a diploma in Classical Piano from the esteemed San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Her love of music led her to specialize in playing the Chinese Long Zither (“gu-zheng”) which culminated in a one woman radio show on NPR-KCRW. It also included the debut of her first two zither/vocal tracks “Kiss My Grits” and “Lovers.” Gwendoline was crowned Miss Chinatown USA in 1998/9 which led her to hosting and commercials. From there, her TV and film career blossomed.

Film
With Robert Duvall and his wifeShot in Calgary, Canada, the AMC mini-series “BROKEN TRAIL” put the network at #1, and was nominated for three Golden Globe awards and 16 Emmys, winning 4 Emmys including Best Mini-Series 2007. Yeo was nominated for a 2007 best actress in a drama NAMIC vision award for portraying the role of Sun Fu. An old fashioned Western with a twist, Yeo plays “number 3”, a stolen girl from mainland China forced into prostitution until she is saved by Prentis Ritter (Robert Duvall) and his nephew Tom Harte (Thomas Haden Church). She refuses to succumb to the brutality from the years before and even finds love in the most difficult of circumstances. Directed by the legendary Walter Hill.

Gwendoline Yeo with Rutger HauerThriller 7EVENTY 5IVE is a “Scream”-esque indie executive produced by Magic Johnson with Music by Wyclef. She and her partner Rutger Hauer (Blade, Batman Begins), play detectives on a hunt involving college murders. Scheduled for 2007 release.

Sci-fi thriller “NIGHT SKIES” where she plays June Lau. The indie film draws inspiration from the notorious Phoenix Lights UFO phenomenon that took place over Nevada and Arizona on March 13, 1997 where five friends run into more than they bargained for. SFX chief turned director Roy Knyrim (CEMETERY GATES) directs. Now available on DVD.

Other film credits: A fun cameo in Sergio Arau’s “A DAY WITHOUT A MEXICAN.” and starred alongside Kerri Russell, Skeet Ulrich and Mare Winningham in Hallmark’s “THE MAGIC OF ORDINARY DAYS,” a movie about the Japanese internment in the 1940s. She also plays Dr. Samantha Yep in Robin Swicord’s “THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB” to be released by Sony.

On-camera commercials include national spots for MCDONALD’S, IBM and VERIZON, as well as COMP USA, CARROWS, TOYOTA, SKETCHERS and JOURNEYS shoes. Also spokesperson for IBM, GTE and Microsoft.

VO commercials include HONDA, NESTLE, HP, CORONA (English and Mandarin), BLACK MAGIC, WORLDCOM EXCHANGE (singing jingles in Mandarin and Cantonese), the BAMBOO CLUB, as well as the voice of demure Star in the ORBITZ.COM campaign.

Latest promo work include the Gwen Stefani’s music video campaign with HP, promo campaign for feature MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, and NBC’s Winter Olympics.

She was thrilled when asked to narrate Amy Tan’s hit THE JOYLUCK CLUB as an audiobook.

Hosting/Spokesperson
Field correspondent for NBC pilot IT’S YOUR SHOW WITH CARSON DALY. She guest hosted for CCTV interviewing such celebs as Placido Domingo. She hosted for a few TV pilots including Bravo, A&E’s D-LIFE, an ABC morning talk show, FOX’s SELLING YOUR SOUL and WB’s music video countdown show SCRATCH.

She’s played spokesperson and host for ad campaigns for GTE, IBM and Microsoft/MSN. Gwendoline was crowned Miss Chinatown USA which led her to hosting.

TV
In television, Gwendoline cleans up on primetime as Eva’s naughty maid to the Solis’ recurring in seasons two and three of ABC’s DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES as Xiao-Mei. She was thrilled to be submitted by Marc Cherry to be on the Emmy nomination ballot for Best Guest Star in a Drama.

Cartoons:
Series regular on shows such as the new X-men series (as DOMINO). Also as caring mom & snooty Lulu on Disney’s SAFETY PATROL, and as the beautiful Li-Mei in ZATCH BELL. One of her favorite roles was when she was a regular as cold Korean wife “Hu Tindle” on Nickelodeon / Spike TV’s THIS JUST IN penned by Steve Marmel (Fairly Odd Parents). She also starred in Marvel Comic’s IRONMAN as his love interest Lee Ann.

Guest star credits include FAMILY GUY, the new STAR WARS series, KIM POSSIBLE as one of the total attitude fashionistas, Lt. Theatrical BackgroundWinner of two DRAMALOGUE AWARDS. Starred in Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST at East West Players with a martial arts twist! Playing dual roles of Miranda and Ariel directed by Andrew Tsao. Vocals and the Chinese Zither specially written in for her by award winning Nathan Wang.

Starred as Dr. Jane Young in acclaimed writer Murray Mednick’s MRS FEURENSTEIN, a psychologist trying to help her patient (Maria Obrian) who believes she is the avenger of the Jews. Directed by Roxanne Rogers.

Plays with Cornerstone Theatre include: ANTIGONE (Shishir Kurup), BROKEN HEARTS (Bill Rauch) and A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY (Chay Yew co-produced with The Mark Taper). Other credits include: Milton Katselas’ written and directed FOUR, playing Kate in the “Rite of Spring” at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Nina in THE SEAGULL at the Hudson Theater.
