Gwendoline fuses traditional zither music, singing and contemporary sounds in the studio. She enjoys improvisation and self-composition the most. If you're into Pink Floyd--this is the Asian version of it! She started out playing weddings and special events and was discovered by the executives at NPR/KCRW playing at a New Year's party. She was invited to write, narrate and score her own One Woman Show which aired as a half hour special on KCRW's "The Politics of Culture" KCRW, 89.9FM debuting her first two tracks "Beautiful" & "Eventually" alongside traditional and improvised pieces. Her credits on the zither for performance and scoring in theatre include productions with the Mark Taper Forum, Cornerstone and Ziggurat theatres and has won garland awards including one for music and lyrics. Vocally, she is a Mezzo Soprano.

ABOUT THE CHINESE LONG ZITHER

The Chinese Long Zither, otherwise known as the Gu-Zheng, runs 21-25 strings in pentatonic scale and is mainly played in the key of G or C major. About five feet long and a foot wide, the Chinese Zither, a fairly hollow instrument, sits on two stands and is usually made of wood and silk strings. Unlike the harp, the strings run parallel to the sound board. The Chinese Zither is known throughout Asia as the mother of such instruments as the Koto, a smaller 13-stringed instrument.
